The NUS Geography Career Day was held on 25 February 2026, featuring six alumni speaking about their careers to 150 students (comprising 40 NUS undergraduates, 75 junior college and 35 secondary school students). As part of the Department of Geography\u2019s continuing engagement of its majors and outreach to pre-university students, the Career Day has been bringing alumni back to their alma mater since the 1990s.<\/p>

The invited guests included: Lorraine Lai (Arts & Social Sciences \u201909), Senior Director for APAC Marketing, Flywire; Barnabas Sim (Arts & Social Sciences \u201912): Deputy Director (Housing), Ministry of National Development; Brian Liu (Arts & Social Sciences \u201912), Senior Product Manager, GovTech Singapore; Clara Ang (Arts & Social Sciences \u201913) Senior Manager, National Heritage Board; Teng Chu Yu (Arts & Social Sciences \u201922) Policy Officer, National Climate Change Secretariat; and Yuki Ong (Arts & Social Sciences \u201923), Co-CEO, GreenLoopFarms.<\/p>

The alumni spoke of the myriad career pathways they have undertaken since commencement. A common point they emphasised is the range of geographical skills they found useful at work, including the ability to synthesise information, an appreciation of scale, and a heightened awareness of sustainability, among others.<\/p>

Yuki Ong, an entrepreneur who co-started GreenLoopFarms, spoke of her interest in sustainability and a personal desire to eat more healthily as motivations for starting one of Singapore\u2019s first full-scale indoor hydroponic farms. Clara Ang, whose job at National Museum involves engaging senior citizens and people with cognitive disabilities, spoke of how her passion in heritage and community outreach was nurtured during her time at university.<\/p>

There were two panel discussions with the alumni, followed by informal networking and interaction. Students eagerly asked questions ranging from the challenges that Arts & Social Sciences graduates face in the workforce, to the key highlights at work and the meaningful contributions that geographers offer society.<\/p>

Fourth year geography major Mr Ethan Tan expressed his appreciation for meeting so many alumni at a single event. His takeaway: \u201cI am thankful for today\u2019s sharing as it reminds me how there is no fixed path. The skills that a geographer possesses is second to none, and the lenses through which we see the world is most unique.\u201d<\/p>
