On 15 and 29 March 2026, musicians from the NUS Alumni Orchestra (NAO) joined current NUS Symphony Orchestra (NUSSO) students for two joint reading sessions of Mahler’s 5th Symphony, led by Associate Professor Chan Tze Law.
The orchestras also supported conducting students from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YSTCM) with the playing of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, 1st Movement. These sessions connected generations of NUS musicians through a shared love of orchestral music.
Following the sessions, both orchestras celebrated their recent milestones — NUSSO’s tour in Kuala Lumpur and NAO’s concert at the DBS Foundation Theatre @ Esplanade — over light refreshments and warm conversation.
Since its formation in 2016, NAO has carried forward the spirit of NUSSO, uniting alumni through music and contributing to Singapore’s cultural life. NAO thanks the NUS Office of Alumni Relations, NUS Office of Student Affairs and NUS Centre for the Arts for making this homecoming possible — a joyful opportunity to share in the joy of making music together, and a reminder that the community lasts a lifetime.
