NUS Alumni Network Melbourne Holds Lunar New Year Dinner

Celebrating the Year of the Fire Horse, the evening brought together approximately 80 alumni and partners for a vibrant night of reunion, reflection, and renewed connections.

NUS Alumni Network Melbourne ushered in the 2026 Lunar New Year with great joy at its annual Lunar New Year Celebration Dinner, held on 21 February 2026 at Gold Leaf Restaurant in Burwood, Victoria. Celebrating the Year of the Fire Horse, the evening brought together approximately 80 alumni and partners for a vibrant night of reunion, reflection, and renewed connections.

The dinner was held at the restaurant, which had a warm and festive setting, with traditional decor and a sumptuous banquet that reflected the richness of the Lunar New Year tradition. Guests were welcomed with lively conversations and the familiar spirit of fellowship that has come to define the Melbourne Network’s annual celebrations. The dinner once again demonstrated the strength and unity of the NUS alumni community in Victoria.

A particularly encouraging highlight this year was the increased participation of younger alumni. It was heartening to see increased engagement with recent graduates and early-career members joining the celebration, bringing fresh energy and perspectives to the gathering. Their presence reflects the Network’s ongoing efforts to build a more inclusive and intergenerational alumni network—one that fosters mentorship, friendship, and professional collaboration across different graduating cohorts.

The Network was also honoured to have participation from representatives of the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine for the third consecutive year, whose presence reinforced the close ties between the University and its overseas medical alumni community. Their attendance is an exemplar of the shared commitment to maintaining strong connections between NUS Alumni Networks abroad at the faculty level.

The success of the evening would not have been possible without the generous sponsorship and support from the NUS Office of Alumni Relations and the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Their continued partnership enables the Melbourne Network to organise meaningful events that strengthen alumni bonds and uphold the proud traditions of NUS beyond Singapore. The Network extends its sincere appreciation for their unwavering support and commitment to alumni engagement.

For many years, NUS Alumni Network Melbourne has proudly hosted this annual Chinese New Year celebration dinner, making it a cornerstone event in its calendar. The tradition reflects not only cultural heritage but also the enduring spirit of connection among NUS graduates in Australia. Each year builds upon the last, deepening friendships and reinforcing a sense of belonging within the NUS global family.

As the Year of the Fire Horse begins, symbolising energy, passion, and forward momentum, the Melbourne Network looks ahead with optimism. With growing participation, especially from younger alumni, and steadfast support from NUS partners, the Network remains committed to strengthening its community and continuing this cherished tradition for many years to come.
