Musical Reunion: NUS Alumni Orchestra Members Reconnect Through Timeless Classics

More than 100 NUS alumni came together to recreate the magic of beloved classical pieces that once filled their university days.

In a heartwarming reunion on 13 July 2025, over 100 NUS alumni—spanning graduating classes from 1989 to 2025—gathered at the Stephen Riady Centre for a special orchestral session. Under the guidance of distinguished conductors Mr Lim Soon Lee and Mr Francis Tan, former NUS Symphony Orchestra members came together to recreate the magic of beloved classical pieces that once filled their university days.

The session featured familiar favourites including Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, pieces that held special significance for many participants from their time in the NUS Symphony Orchestra. The afternoon was more than just a musical gathering – it was a bridge connecting different generations of NUS musicians, bringing together alumni who shared the same passion for orchestral music during their university years.

“Playing these pieces again, under the same conductors who guided us during our university days, brought back so many wonderful memories,” shared one participant. The familiar strains of Swan Lake and the Hebrides Overture echoed through the hall, evoking a sense of nostalgia while creating new memories among fellow alumni.
